California Governor Gavin Newsom stated this past Sunday that he is taking legal action against President Trump regarding the alleged sending of three hundred Californian state guard troops to Oregon.

“The troops are currently en route,” Newsom stated during a press announcement. “This administration is blatantly undermining the legal system directly and putting into action their harmful rhetoric – disregarding judicial rulings and treating the judiciary, even those appointed by the President himself, as adversaries.”

Legal Background and Federal Decision

The governor's legal action is in response to a federal judge’s ruling that blocked the White House from sending the Oregon's guard to the city of Portland. The federal judge upheld claims that it would escalate rather than calm tensions in the urban area.

Immergut stated in her decision, which postpones sending the troops until at least October 18, that there was a lack of evidence that the recent protests in the city justified the action.

City Officials React

Caroline Turco, the deputy attorney, noted that there had been peaceful conditions against Ice officers for several months and that current rallies were “sedate” in the week before the president declared the metropolis to be a conflict area, sometimes including fewer than a dozen participants.

“This isn’t about public safety, the core issue is control,” Newsom asserted. “This battle will be fought in the courts, but the citizens cannot stay silent in the face of such reckless and dictatorial conduct by the nation's leader.”

Oregon Legal Chief Comments

In a statement on X, the state's attorney general stated that the state is “quickly assessing our options and preparing to take legal action.

“The administration is evidently intent on deploying the troops in domestic metropolitan areas, absent evidence or authority to do so,” he noted. “Our responsibility and the judicial system to hold him accountable. We are committed to this course.”

Federal and State Response

State guard officials directed inquiries to the federal defense agency. A department spokesperson offered no response. There was no immediate comment from the executive branch.

The report from Oregon came just a short time after the President ordered the sending of state guard forces to the city of Chicago, the most recent in a succession of comparable operations across multiple US states.

Trump had first announced the plan on 27 September, saying he was “authorizing full force, if necessary” in spite of appeals from state authorities and the state’s congressional delegation, who reported there had been a solitary, uneventful demonstration outside a federal agency location.
